Laura decided to quit her culinary job and open a business of her own in Magnolia Promenade.I built her "Tiers of Joy Bakery" for this purpose.
Laura went to her bakery in the morning to set things up for sale. She hired an employee to help her in the business. She also transferred some funds to her retail account and purchased advertising to promote her bakery. She set store's price mark up rate to 25%.
Then she went to the basement kitchen to bake some cakes and pastries to sell.I also brought Jennifer to help her in baking.Jennifer's cooking skill is not so high, she prepared some cupcakes with only the three beginner recipes she knew.
I separated selling zones for specific baking goods in my bakery so that the customers won't crowd in one place. At the entrance I placed a big counter for bread, doughnuts, pastries and coffee.Wedding and birthday cakes have their own section and there is a cupcake section too.I used relevant neon signs to introduce the three counters.
But it came out that a lot of baking needed to fill all the displays. So beside baked items I used custom decorative food items that I downloaded from Ladesire's blog to stuff the shelves and they can be sold too.Guess what??? It's more profitable to sell decorative food items than baked goods because they're way more expensive.
After putting a few cupcakes and pastries on the display,Laura opened the bakery and almost instantly two customers showed up on the lot.Jennifer went to greet the customers.
Jennifer discussed shopping preferences with the customers and suggested options based on theier preferences. Some customers will buy something on their own while others will buy only if some retail social interactions are successfully deployed on them. There is a blue bar above the customer's head which indicates the possibility of their buying something in a store.Basically I leave them filling the bar to more than half by retail interactions and the rest of the bar gets filled browsing items by themselves.I assign employees mainly for restocking and answering customer's question.Ringing the customer for sell is done by my Sims. It's a bit painful to attend customers individually but it's fun to racking up retail perk points.
Gradually a bunch of customers showed up in the bakery and I had to bring Jeff and Alex from home to attend them. They're a bit of a handful,so my goal became to gather enough perk points to unlock option for hiring a second employee.Because Jennifer,Alex and Jeff can't help Laura with her bakery everyday as they got their own careers to be concentrated upon. There is also another problem is that if I switch control to any Sim in my house when I switch back again to the bakery I find my bakery to be closed. Also when I leave Sims with tasks at home and switch to bakery,I find all the tasks cancelled while checking my Sims switching back to home. This bug is really very annoying. So I placed a basement bedroom and kids playroom and decided that all my Sims would be in bakery while the bakery runs and they would fulfill their needs and gain skill in the basement.
Alex was not good at answering customers as he frequently became tensed and angry by them.So I sent him to ring up customers only. There was crowd even in 3 am at night in the bakery. After earning enough perk points to hire additional employee I closed the store at dawn.I got many sales. After the customers left,Laura and Jeff cleaned the store. They all returned home tired.
I became exhausted too. That's all for today.
